Released in 2019, Rockweed is a soft ripened cheese with a ribbon of powdered bladderwrack seaweed through the center. This 1/2 pound square cheese is creamy and briny.
My inspiration for developing this cheese was the seaweed covered rocks on the shore of the Medomak River where East Forty Farm is located; a “taste of place.” I source the seaweed for the cheese from Maine Coast Sea Vegetables. This cheese won a Silver medal in the Big E Gold Medal Cheese Competition in 2019.
Rockweed has been selected as one of the ten 2019 Yankee Editors’ Choice Food Awards in Yankee Magazine.
